At the heart of many aspects of the magical paradigm is the philosophy of animism, which is the belief that spirit is everywhere and in all things. Essentially, under this belief heading everything is alive to some degree, and in some interpretations there are spirits, plural all around us in daily life.
Is this so far-fetched? Have you never been personally attached to a vehicle or other object, to the point this thing almost seemed to have a personality of sorts?
Whether or not you are an animist perhaps you can agree that spirits are in the environment, material and subtle and interact with us with or without our knowing. Remembering that beliefs can be adopted and discarded as needed, you will need to try a belief of this nature on for this spell to do you much good.
Contacting the Spirit Realm
Contrary to popular belief, we can interact knowingly with the spirit world from both a formal or informal context. Ritual is useful but not required.
I do encourage the use of a magic circle of some sort for this spell to protect you from irate entities or intrusive spirits who come unwanted to your call.
This is not magic for contacting the ancestors per se, nor for evoking a specific spirit for magical work, although the techniques herein could be used for these purposes. This magic is about making contact with any spirits in your environment.
Use it to communicate with household spirits, including unwanted guests. This spell is also useful for contacting nature spirits in the immediate vicinity or the souls of those departed who wander the earth instead of going on to the Other World.
For an extra layer of security you may incant Hekas, ekas, este bebiloi. This is a call to Hecate to remove any harmful spirits or forces from your vicinity. You may add Averter! Averter! Averter! if you wish, which is a call for the masculine god to bar from entering the space further problematic spirits.
You could also or alternatively call upon your Zodiac angel, spirit guides, or other with: “You with the power to protect me thusly, allow only departed among the peaceful dead to hear and behold and respond to me.” This should keep malicious spirits of the dead at bay if such is your desire.
I’ll say again: Raise or cast a magic circle.
Procedure
Holding or wearing a blue agate or blue fluorite will enhance your ability to contact and communicate clearly with spiritual beings.
From a meditative state place attention into your base chakra, and then raise your awareness along the Middle Pillar through each higher chakra until reaching the throat chakra. Once at the throat chakra, form a mudra with each hand touching the thumb to the middle finger to channel the energy of this chakra and the fifth element.
Next begin chanting the sound HUM, ideally in the musical note of G. After a little while, keep the same tone but switch to HANG. (Hah-NG). Once you feel dialed in reach out mentally or verbally to nearby spirits or a specific spirit if that be the case.
“Spirit, seeing and hearing me, be now known to me as I am known to thee.”
As you think or speak these words, imagine projecting them through your throat chakra. Then be silent and note the area above your ears (psychic hearing centers) to listen for response.
You may get impressions or ideas rather than hearing a reply. Or you might see and hear a spirit clearly. Many factors determine this.
Continue to communicate as desired, and then politely say farewell and discreetly dismiss the spirit using a banishing pentagram or cross form. You might say Thank you and now depart for I have much to do. I will call again soon and bid you come.
You obviously may wish to bind the spirit so that it must return when you call and/or a range of other standard, sorcerous things. I leave that to your discretion.
