Sigils for Seven Planetary Angels of the Week Days

If you spend any significant amount of time in the planetary magic doctrines of the Western Mystery Tradition, you will discover a few less than ideal issues.

1. There are multiple systems for planetary magic in play.
   • Which means there isn’t a single, consolidated lore.
     • Often lore is fragmentary in nature, seeming to exist only partially in the published works or known literature.
2. Authors and teachers in the past, even well-respected ones, have been careless and lackadaisical with their terminology and in their handling of spiritual hierarchies of the planets, including individual spirits therein.
3. Consequently it can be difficult to piece together a definite hierarchy for practical use.
   • You might find a structure that works for you right away but if you want to touch the real thing and dive into the true power you are likely going to have to experiment with various structures and alignments of spirits.

For these reasons it can be difficult to find reliable sigils for the various angelic beings associated with the classical seven planets. In hopes of adding a bit of simplicity to the lives of new and struggling planetary magicians I’ve posted seven options for planetary angels, along with their sigils, in this post.

Archangels and Planetary Angels

There is some confusion and seemingly even a bit of deliberate obfuscation in the realm of planetary archangels and angels. Note the esoteric lore of planetary-angelic beings, including archangels, is not the same as the Christian doctrine of the nine angelic choirs between god and humanity.

Planetary Archangels

The archangelic being is usually considered directly under the archetype or godhead of the planetary sphere. In magical lore and Kabbalistic philosophy archangelic beings are lords and leaders of angelic orders, commanders of angelic armies, and rulers over specific domains with subordinate angels beneath them to carry out their designs.

The seven archangels per seven planets are listed below by name but without sigils. The column on the right is the angelic order or choir ruled by the archangel, according to some, including David Rankine whose work I respect and appreciate. Note, however, the doctrine of these angelic choirs corresponding to the seven planets and/or ruled by the listed archangels is anything but universally accepted.

Planetary Angels, Also Angels of the Days of the Week

These seven angels are considered ruling angels of the seven classical planets. As each weekday is attributed to a ruling planet, this means the angels here listed are also the ruling angels of the day associated with their planet.

Returning to the idea of mixed doctrine and scattered lore, these angelic beings have been interpreted in different ways. Here are the most commonly represented narratives for these planetary angels.

1. In some schools of thought these angels are the supreme angelic forces associated with the seven planets. In such cases, the archangels above are simply not part of the hierarchy.
2. In other traditions (term used loosely) the seven angels listed below are chief angels subordinate to the archangel. In some such cases they are seen as the angel of authority within the order ruled by the archangel, with the archangel ruling from outside or above the choir or order.
3. Still other lore puts these angels outside of the strict planetary hierarchy and places them exclusively as the planetary day of the week rulers, to be utilized for magical work on the planetary day. Often times they often are said to rule the hours of their planets within planetary timekeeping, in which case they may be contacted and worked with on any weekday if during the appropriate planetary hour.
