Mystical Characters of the Sun

This entry is part 2 of 2 in the series Magic Symbols of the Planets from the Greater Key of Solomon

Taken from the second pentacle of the sun, pentacle 33 in the Greater Key of Solomon, here are two symbols described as “mystical characters of the Sun” by MacGreggor Mathers in his editor’s notes. Draw and focus upon these symbols in a setting suitable for solar work.

The goal here will be to gain an insight or gnosis of the Solar sphere or your own soul-nature.

What is the top symbol if not a stylization of the six-armed cross and a bridge apparent. Perhaps this bridge spans the gap between the spheres of body and soul? The position and proportions of the small, horizontal lines at the top of each arm and the central spine speak to an order of parts outside of the center, and perhaps of creativity.

The lower symbol is clearly another passageway, but from and to what or where? What might the symbols adjoined by this horizontal line or channel signify, if not harmony and order?
