In the true practice of magic it is increasingly important that we develop, refine, and maintain a consistent, internal terminology and nomenclature for discourse amongst ourselves, educating newcomers, and occasionally interfacing with those outside of our subculture. This glossary is my attempt towards this end, though it is most likely in vain. You may or may not see these terms echoed by other magic writers and bloggers.

The capitalized Rune refers to the cosmic principle or divine power behind, or represented by the Futhark rune, with the lowercase “r” version being the visible mark.
Clarification Lowercase rune refers to the mark or “letter” in Futhark, or to marks/characters from o5=ther systems. Capitalized Rune refers to the power behind the mark or symbol.
Class of energy representing the higher vibratory ranges. This class of energy is not usually available to the five mundane senses but can be detected via psychic sensory. Cannot be measured using physical equipment but can be observed or found via divination. Not accepted by academia. Also called mystical energy.
A magic item or object that is charged with certain powers and may be deployed by thought, verbal command, or other trigger. Distinct from amulet in that a talisman must be triggered or activated to use its magic.
